Young Once - Young Guns

Philip and Belle Kay

When I first pressed the shutter of my camera - I thought that it is just as simple as any other work. Just put the people inside the frame, have it focused, click and I’m done. No, photography is not just as simple as pressing the shutter but to have the eye and passion for it spells the big difference.

Philip Loyola who have been a friend for years now is reaping the fruits of his hard work and owns a studio and a bridal shop to name a few of his businesses here in the City and the Province as well. Loyola started pressing his shutter for almost thirty years ago, the experience that had proved it worth today as he becomes the most sought-after photographer in the City.

When ask about how he succeeded, the chinky eyed lens man said, “It is how you hone your craft, do things right and be able to be distinct from everyone else,” Philip said. “I started Bodyshot Photography just beside the old City Hall, a table sized office and friends who dropped by to have their photos taken. I also submit photo contributions to various publications,” said Loyola.

“Some doubted that I would succeed and make it big someday, but as the years passed by, people came in and availed of the services that we offer and they continued to come back,” Loyola added.

They instantly became our advertisers and we continue to benefit out of that. Now, Philip has a 14-year-old daughter who has the same passion than that of his father and the two are now partners in shooting weddings and events. Philip who has been “Young Once” and Belle Kay who is now the “Young Guns” who is following the footsteps of her father.

Today, it is a mixture of the traditional moves and signature shots of the new breed coming from Belle who is planning to take BS Photography in Manila when she finishes High School. Philip and Belle Kay is now the backbone of the services being offered by the Bodyshot Photography, said Janet Loyola.

“We let the kid enjoy and observe where she would be comfortable and with the looks of it - she is the continuing force for the business and we just let her be herself,” Janet added. “She regularly hangs out with his father during photoshoots and could finish a wedding photo shoot by herself,” said Janet. This only goes to show that when you do things right - the way to success isn’t that far.*
